Missing Signal Blog Tour 2018

Today I get the chance to be a part of the Meerkat Press Blog Tour for the new book Missing Signal by Seb Doubinsky, and I'm really excited to share this short sci-fi with you guys. Missing Signal was released in August and to celebrate Meerkat Press is also giving away a $25 Amazon gift card.

Seb Doubinsky writes mostly sci-fi, dystopian, and crime novels, and Missing Signal is a fun, unique blend of all three. Missing Signal is the story of Agent Terrence Kovacs who works for the New Petersburg Counter-Intel Department propagating fake UFO stories; but when he meets a beautiful woman who claims to be from another planet, Terrence is forced to question everything he knows.

He actually had a list of his aliases and access codes, because he had so many of them. Fifty-seven to be precise. He had counted. Sometimes it was hard for him to recall his real name. Terrence Kovacs. It sounded weird to his own ears when he said it out loud. Alien. Yeah, alien. The word made him smile.

There are a lot of things that I liked about this book. It's incredibly short, only around 200 pages, and each chapter is both precise and thought-provoking. It's art in novel form, a philosophy that's been entwined with promises of aliens and mind-altering drugs.

It reminded him of his soul, if he had one. It would smell exactly like this. When he stood in front of the cash register, he suddenly felt strange buying his own soul.

Overall I had a lot of fun with this novel. It was unlike anything I'd ever read and I'm very curious to check out Seb Doubinsky's work. But I do have a few cons for the overall story. Some of the more adult themes in the book seemed unnecessary to the story and were written in such vague terms that they seemed more like afterthoughts than character developers. Just an easy way to make everyone aware that Terrence is lonely while also being able to talk about random erotica from the 60s.

The two girls look like hippies, one with a denim mini skirt, the other with a suede one. Both are wearing white t-shirts. The man is already lying on the bed, bare-chested. barefoot and in white jeans. The girls begin kissing the man each in turn. He caresses the one in the suede miniskirt while the other girl undresses. That one is a blonde, the other is a brunette. They are soon all naked and doing their thing.

The other complaint I had is that while the story started off a bit slow, the end seemed rushed. The story had just started to really pull me in and then it ended. I don't regret reading it by any means, the flow was incredibly unique and Seb Doubinsky's writing was very interesting, I just would've liked to hear more of Terrence's story.

With that cold fall weather closing in, this was the perfect book to keep my mind off the rain. So if you enjoy sci-fi and want a fun, fast read than Missing Signal is well worth checking out.
